YOPD INTRODUCTION

YOUNG ONSET PARKINSON’S DISEASE

Welcome to the Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease area of our website. Our aim is to engage with, educate and inspire those living with YOPD, help them to benefit from the services we offer and ultimately improve their day to day living.

Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease (YOPD) is the term generally given to those who are diagnosed with Parkinson’s when under the age of 50. About 10-20% of people with Parkinson’s experience symptoms under this age, and whilst the symptoms and treatments are the same as those who develop the disease later in life, there are important challenges unique to those living with YOPD. Work and family are generally the focus of the majority of those living with YOPD which in turn presents a host of questions, concerns and worries for them and their families.

Through a series of monthly webinars with different topics each month we hope to provide a safe space for those living with YOPD to come together, share their stories, gain advice and support from those in a similar position to themselves and learn from our special guests who will be providing a wealth of knowledge in areas such as nutrition, exercise, complementary therapies, mental health, employment, family life, children and much more.

We will also be providing a series of podcasts from those living with YOPD, who will be sharing their stories including any tips or guidance they may have and be able to help others. Talking and sharing plays an important part in helping to slow down the condition and ultimately find a cure.
